2016

Remember me? Sorry I went a bit AWOL for a few months there. Time just seemed to disappear! What did I miss?

Apple and Cinnamon Muffins

What a beautiful day! Who else is loving this sun!? I'm definitely not ready to put away the shorts just yet so I'm hoping it lasts as long as possible. I need to keep this tan somehow!

September Goals

Well, this is serious déjà vu. It feels like just yesterday I was writing last year's September Goals...

San Marco

Gondolas aside, Saint Mark's Square is probably the most iconic image of Venice.

From the Canals

Just like you can't go to Paris without visiting the Eiffel Tower, you can't go to Venice without riding in a gondola. It's expensive, it's a cliche, but it's one to tick off the bucket list! After all, you can't fight those touristy temptations forever...

June Reflections

Is it July already!? How did that happen? I guess that's what working does for you, it makes you lose track of time and suddenly a whole month has flown by!

Slutty Brownie Cake

Most of the time, I love baking. It's relaxing, you get to eat the end result, and it makes other people happy too. Other times, I completely understand why people cry on the Great British Bake Off. Breaking down over your burnt sponge or collapsed baked Alaska? Totally justified. This cake was one of those moments.

Looking Over Venice

Look at that crazy mane of hair. Once again, unrealistic expectations resulting from *that scene* in Pocahontus have not been met. Sad times.

Ciao, Venezia!

A while back, I ended a post about Venice with a quote by Truman Capote: "Venice is like eating an entire box of chocolate liqueurs in one go". I couldn't agree more. Venice may be all about the simple life, but it's beauty is pure indulgence. It hits you all at once. Everywhere you turn, your breath is taken away. There's really no surprise I ended up with over 200 photos in just 4 days. It truly is something special.

June Goals

Hellooo June! Happy to see ya! Not happy about this rainy weather though, where's the sun? Fingers crossed we'll see an appearance of it soon.

Carrot Cake

As a child, the thought of carrot cake sounded awful to me. As did cheesecake for that matter. Who in their right mind would want vegetables and cheese in a cake? Oh, how young and naive I was...

Now that I've grown up a little, I've come to appreciate the modest carrot cake for what it is: an English classic. So, it was about time I made my own.

Perspective

I've been suffering from a serious case of overthinking. Everything that can be thought about, has been thought about. I feel on edge, restless, distracted. I just can't seem to shut off this silly little mind of mine.

River Walk

As Spring starts to arrive in St. Anton, the days grow warmer, the snow starts to melt and the recovering grass is revealed underneath. But of course, melting snow means less skiing. So, what do you do in a ski resort with no skiing? You go exploring!

Beetroot Brownies

Is there anything more beautiful than a mountain of brownies?

No, I didn't think so.

Tuesday 3 May 2016

Blue Skies

The best days in St. Anton have to be, without doubt, the days just after a massive snowfall. The snow has been falling incessantly, the mountains have been in a complete white out, but suddenly, one morning, you wake up, and what's that? Sun? Blue skies?? In January?? It's time to get up those mountains and enjoy that fresh powder!

May Goals

Happy 1st of May! This year is flying by already! Now that I'm back to normality, it's time to sort out my life and start making plans. Although I haven't quite figured out "the bigger picture" just yet, I always find making smaller goals are a good way to put some sense of order and control back into your life. Plus, everyone loves the satisfaction of ticking things off your to do list!

Ain't No Mountain High Enough

At 3am our alarms went off and I groggily slumped out of bed, looking back and longing to re-wrap myself up in those warms sheets. But by 3:50am there we were, dressed in layer upon layer of clothes with skis strapped onto our backs, standing in the dark, about to start our moonlit climb up the mountain to the top of Kappall.

Finding Narnia

Fun fact for you all, I am currently writing this from my first bath in 5 months complete with bubbles and Bon Iver (on Spotify, not in my bath). Heaven, right? Sometimes you need a little pampering, ya know?

Anyways, let's get back to the mountains and snowier times. St. Anton can get very busy out on the slopes. That's when you run away into the trees. Here we found our own bit of Narnia.

First Snow

There's nothing I love more than snow. It's one of the few things that still fills me up with that child-like excitement, waking up in the morning to see a blanket of white outside, fighting the temptation to make snow angels and build snowmen until the sun goes down. So after weeks without a single fresh flake in sight, when the snow finally started falling in St. Anton on new year's eve (and then again at midnight - talk about a perfect movie moment!), I couldn't resist getting outside straight away. If there's anything that can instantly transform a place into a magical wonderland, it's snow.

Life in the Mountains

Well, hello stranger!

Happy new year! Firstly, many many apologies for such a long silence here on my blog. I have missed just sitting down, taking a breather and writing a post. If you follow me on Instagram or read this post, you'll probably know I've been a bit of a busy bee this past month or so, and that I'm not writing this from Surrey, but from the snowy Austrian mountains of St. Anton.
